When we first moved into our home, we fell in love with the bones of the space. Our adventure to update the overall aesthetic has been five years in the making with many more to grow into. The past year lead us to our latest project and a modern update to the dining room.
With furniture and materials from Home Depot, Crate and Barrel, Room and Board, and Hennepin Made, the room was a perfect blend of sophistication and functionality. Since the refresh, this space has served use for family dinners, homework sessions, and craft projects. The updated dining room is wonderful space that is now functional and design to tie together the main floor of the home.

Dining Room Table Upgrade
The Room and Board dining table has become the centerpiece of our dining room and we knew it needed to be simple yet functional. We wanted a space to entertain guests during special events, but also a place we could use as a family on a daily basis. We selected a table with a solid wood top in a light finish, which adds warmth to the room and complements the Scandinavian modern style. The table has clean lines and a simple design, reflecting our love for minimalist aesthetics. With its larger size, it now comfortably seats our family for meals and provides ample space for homework or craft projects.
Dining Room Chairs Statement
The dining room chairs from Crate and Barrel added a show-stopping design punch to the room. We opted for new chairs that are not only stylish but also comfortable and practical. We chose chairs that would add a little personality to the room in our Scandinavian modern style. The chairs have a sleek, minimalist design that fits perfectly with the aesthetic of our home. The kids at times add a pillow to sit on the chairs to add a layer of padding, but overall very functional seating for adults.

Custom Light Pendant
The Hennepin Made light pendant we initially fell in love at their Minneapolis studio is still the perfect design selection for our our dining room. When it came time for purchasing, we decided to make a statement by upgrading to a higher quality and pairing three single style pendants together in a group. This helped the light build into a greater impact versus one single pendant. We opted for a larger pendant with a light silver finish, which adds a touch of elegance and sophistication to the room that ties into the wallpaper design. The finish complements the warm tones of the wood in the room and adds a luxurious touch to the overall aesthetic.

Wallpaper Refresh
The wallpaper we selected is from Home Depot. It is the perfect backdrop with a simple yet modern design. We narrowed down our selections to three designs and decided to go with a graphic wallpaper that adds a touch of modernity to the space. We choose a simple pattern with muted tones of navy and gray, which complements the gray walls and window coverings. The new wallpaper instantly brightens up the room, creating a fresh and inviting atmosphere.
Family-Friendly Functionality
As our family has grown and evolved over the past 5 years, so has the functionality of our dining room. It’s not just a space for family dinners, but also a place for homework and craft projects. To make the room more family-friendly, you added a lazy-susan in the middle of the table for easy distribution during family meals. We do have room to continue to add a side table console or hutch, but for now the simplicity is a gift and clutter-free.

Spring Refresh
Each room evolves and after living in our home for 5 years, we value the patience in planning, searching for the perfect details and rest in the joy of a final design. The final look reflects our sophisticated Scandinavian modern style while also accommodating the needs of our growing family. The new wallpaper adds a fresh look to the room, while the upgraded dining chairs and table provide comfort and functionality. The statement light pendant remains a stunning focal point, and the added family-friendly features make the room practical for various activities. We are so happy with this space and hope to enjoy it for years to come.
